This is one of the larger jars we have had from Christopher Youngblood.  The jar is carved with four sections of design.  Each area has a different section of cloud or feather swirls.  The carving is deep and rounded out, much in the style of the melon ribs used on his pottery.   One section has seven circular swirls, the next has a single large feather medallion seemingly rotating in motion.  The next has six interconnected circular medallions which create their own flowing pattern.  The final area has another circular feather design with sixteen feathers!  The matte area on the jar is fully sanded and a perfect complement to the stone polished areas.  The lid is equally as extraordinary with the very deeply carved and rounded out ribs which make the cloud designs.  The lid is inset into the top of the jar.  Chris is a perfectionist with the matte areas of his pottery, as they perfectly balance the highly polished designs.  Chris says that he focuses on each piece, taking the time to work on the shaped and stone polish the surface to a high shine, often polishing a piece several times to get it right. He has won numerous awards for his pottery, including the 2104 “Best of Pottery” at Santa Fe Indian Market.
