Youngblood-Lugo, Sergio – “Deadlock” Carved Polychrome Bowl
$ 2,000.00
Sergio Lugo is the middle son of noted potter Nancy Youngblood and a brother to Joseph Lugo and Christopher Youngblood. He learned to make pottery from his mother. Each piece is coil-built, carved or painted, stone polished, and traditionally fired. This piece is deeply carved and slipped with mica. The bowl is entitled, “Deadlock” and the red and micacous interlocking rounded sections are meant to represent the interlocked talons of eagles during mating. The most interesting part of the bowl is actually the rounded out background what is slipped with black clay. There is a precision in the symmetry of the rounded area that accentuates the “talons”. It is a creative piece in design and form. The piece was traditionally fired with a rich coloration. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Sergio Lugo”.
