This is a classic bowl by Mela Youngblood.  The piece is coil-built, carved, and stone polished.  The design is a deeply carved avanyu that encircles the bowl.  Note the depth of the carving and also how she used the negative space of the rim to flow downward into the design of the avanyu!  Mela was known for the rounded edges of her carved designs, which can easily be seen in this piece.  The bowl is highly polished and fired to a glassy black.  It is signed on the bottom, “Mela Youngblood”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
