Youngblood, Mela – Jar with Walking Bear Paw (1980’s)

6.5"w x 5.5"h

$ 1,800.00

This is a classic jar by Mela Youngblood.  She was a daughter of Margaret Tafoya and the mother of Nathan Youngblood and Nancy Youngblood.  The jar is deeply carved with a design called a “walking bear paw”.  It is a design which Margaret Tafoya often used in her pottery.  It is meant to represent the motion of a bear walking.  The jar is deeply carved and highly polished.  It was traditionally fired black.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay,  “Mela Youngblood”.  Definitely a classic by Mela Youngblood.
