This miniature is part of a series created by Nancy Youngblood of her “micro-minis”.  They are miniature versions of her larger vessels.  Each piece is coil built, carved, stone polished and traditionally fired.  This is a wedding vase with an avanyu deeply carved into the clay and as the jar is turned there are water swirls and lightning designs.  The handle is thin and fully polished. Note the shape of the spouts, which are square, much in the style of her grandmother, Margaret Tafoya.  The entire piece is fully polished, even the bottom, and then fired a deep black.  It is remarkable how she can do this on such a small surface!  The piece signed on the bottom in the clay “Nancy Y.”.  It is from 2021.
