Youngblood, Nancy – Miniature Red & Tan Jar with Carved Feathers (1979)

2.25"w x 2.25"h

$ 2,000.00

While Nancy Youngblood is known for her swirl melon bowls and carved pottery, she started out her career making miniatures.  This miniature is from 1979 and it is one of her striking red pieces.  The jar is very deeply carved with 22 feathers. The feathers are polished tan in coloration. The tan coloration is always difficult to create, as it is simply water applied to the surface of the clay and then stone polished.  The remainder of the jar is polished red. This creates a striking visual contrast with the tan and the buff matte areas.  It is exceptional how deeply Nancy was able to carve into her pottery relative to the size of the piece!  This jar is in excellent condition and it is signed on the bottom, “Nancy Yellow Aspen Youngblood”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
