Youngblood, Nathan – Asymmetric Jar with Carved Lid

4.75"w x 8"h (w/ lid)

$ 6,800.00

This jar by Nathan Youngblood is asymmetric in form. The interesting aspect to this shape is that each quarter turn creates a different profile.  The jar has an avanyu encircling the entire piece.  On one side near the base are rain clouds.  The opposite side near the neck and carved into the negative space are stratus clouds.  Separating each of the sections are matte bands slipped with mica.  The remainder of the jar is fully polished. The lid is carved with a “faceted” finial, which is slipped with mica.  The balance of mice and polished surfaces on the jar is visually elegant and the polishing is Nathan’s glass-like appearance.  Creative!  The jar is signed on the bottom in the clay “Nathan Youngblood” and the hallmark of his name in Tewa.
