Youngblood, Nathan – Bowl with Bear Paw

7"w x 4.75"h

$ 2,500.00

This is a simple but classic bowl by Nathan Youngblood.  There is a single bear paw carved into the clay on one side.  The remainder of the bowl is fully polished.  It has been fired to a deep black coloration.  The bear paw is symbolic of a Pueblo story where the bear led the Pueblo people to water during a drought.  While simple in design, there is a classic sense to the form and polish, certainly reminiscent of the work of his great-grandmother Margaret Tafoya.  The bowl is signed on the bottom in the clay with his name and hallmarked name in Tewa.
