Nathan Youngblood is known for his deeply carved and highly polished pottery.  This jar is a striking shape with a  very round body and a slight neck.  The jar is carved with two large medallions. The medallions each have circular rain and lightning patterns.  They are connected by two linear bands with cloud pattern.  The use of the matte areas helps to focus the eye on the carved designs.  The jar is highly polished using a stone and the surface has a glassy black appearance.  It is striking when Nathan is able to achieve this shine!  It is signed on the bottom with his name and Tewa hallmark which are the deer tracks (his Tewa name is Deer Path).  The jar is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
