$ 8,900.00

This is a classic long neck water jar by Nathan Youngblood.  The neck has a kiva step/eagle feather pattern.  It is a usage of historic feather pattern created through the use of intricate interlocking kiva step patterns. Around the body of the jar is an avanyu design. The jar is very deeply carved and polished a very deep red.  The contrast of the polished red and tan is stunning!  It is an exceptionally intricate jar with sharp edges and complex patterns. The jar is traditionally fired and on Nathan’s red pieces, after they are fired, he uses screwdrivers to scrape the background area and the side of the carving.  This can take almost as much time as the carving or polishing itself!  Amazing the amount of time that goes into each vessel and yet how stunning they appear!  The jar is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Nathan Youngblood” along with deer tracks symbolizing his name in Tewa which mean “Deer Path”.
