Zane Smith, Jamie – Large Jar with Impressed Designs (2009)

16"w x 13"h 17"h in stand

$ 2,200.00

Jamie Zane Smith is one of the few potters who can create such stunning complicated clay surfaces. This large jar has a narrow base, wide shoulder and elongated neck.  The neck has been rag polished to look like leather.  The body of the jar is thin-walled and coil-built.  While it is istill wet, Jamie uses wood stamps that he carves himself to impress designs into the clay!  This jar has a combination of circular and blocks with letters, as the impressed designs.  They encompass most of the surface of the piece.  It is signed on the bottom, “JZS”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  It was originally sold through us in 2009 and has come back to the gallery.  I originally had the museum mount made for it to that it could sit on its side and show off the elegant form and detail.  It remains quite impressive!
