Alvin Baca is known for his classic melon ribbed jars.  He is a son of noted potter Angela Baca.  This jar is carved with 24 melon ribs encircling the piece.  The entire jar is fully polished, including the short neck.  The space between the ribs is matte for a stronger visual contrast.  Even the base of the jar is polished.  The jar is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Alvin Baca”.
