Medicine Flower, Grace – Large Seedpot with Bears (1978)

This large seedpot by Grace Medicine Flower is from 1978. It is fully polished and etched on the entire surface, top and bottom! The top has two large bears etched into the clay. Above them is a feather design along with clouds. Below is another feather pattern along with an avanyu. Below the shoulder is a VERY tightly etched feather design and a bear paw. Near the base are two bear cubs playing by a tree. The piece combines Grace’s realism and traditional designs to create a ‘story” in clay. These are always among my favorites of her pieces. All the etching was done before the piece was fired. The seedpot is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Grace Medicine Flower”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks restoration or repair.
