This is a traditional jar by Burel Naha. He is the son of Helen “Featherwoman” Naha and a brother of Rainy Naha and Sylvia Naha. While he no longer makes much pottery, he was well known for his intricately painted pieces and especially the use of the spider design. This jar has more traditional design elements. Around the body of the jar is the “eternity” design seen in the work of Helen Naha. Around the neck and near the base are swirling bird wings. The jar is painted using bee-weed (black) and red clay along with stippling on a white kaolin clay surface. The jar was traditionally fired. It is signed on the bottom with a feather and a Long Hair katsina, which is his hallmark. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
