Honyouti, Mavasta – “Circuitous Root” Cottonwood Jar
$ 1,800.00
Mavasta Honyouti is a skilled Hopi Katsina carver from Hotevilla Third Mesa; He is Ronald Honyouti’s son and Clyde Honyouti’s Grandson, both skilled Hopi Katsina carvers. He is well known for his scenes carved in low-relief. This piece is entitled “Circuitous Root”. It is one of his wooden “vessels”. The entire surface is fully carved with a lightning pattern at various levels. The title refers to how the lightning design begins to look like a circuit board as each section connects to the next. The piece does have a “starting point” where the background design is painted white, and it flows across the surface. It is a striking piece that combines traditional designs in a modern flow! The piece is painted after the carving. It is signed, “M. Honyouti”.
