Roybal, Tonita – Bowl with Wave and Sun Designs (1920s)
$ 575.00
Tonita Roybal remains one of the great innovative names in San Ildefonso pottery. This small bowl is coil-built and fully polished on the outside. It is painted with an unusual design. There is a wave and sun design. The style of the sun design is one that we often see in Tonita’s pottery, especially in her polychrome work. The bowl was fired to silvery-black coloration. The bowl is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair with some wear near the base. It is signed, “Tonita” in the clay on the bottom. The signature is the earliest style of her signature when it was painted onto the surface before firing.
