White Dove, Shayetsa – Large Six Color Water Jar with Acoma Birds and Plants (2000)

Shayetsa White Dove (b. 1956) began making pottery in 1984.  She learned to make pottery from her grandmother, Connie O. Cerno.  Her focus has long been on historic Acoma designs.  The jar is coil-built and thin-walled.  It is painted with bee-weed (black) and five different colors of clay slips.  The area above the shoulder of the jar has four large and colorful parrots.  They are next to flowers and above a cloud design.  Around the body of the jar are four large parrots.  Note the use of pink and blue/green clay colors.  In later years, the variety of colorations, especially the green, would become a signature of her pottery.  Overall, it is tightly painted, and the jar is beautiful in coloration!  It is signed on the bottom, “Shayetsa White Dove”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
