Naranjo, Gracie – Bowl with Bear Paw and Carved Clouds (1990s)

Gracie Naranjo (1938-2002) was married to Edward Naranjo, a son of Christina Naranjo.  She was known for her highly polished pottery.  This bowl is coil-built, carved, stone-polished, and traditionally fired.  The bowl has a bear paw and a carved band of clouds.  Note how they flow across the surface and include the surrounding negative space.  The bowl is highly polished and fired a deep black coloration.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Gracie Naranjo”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
