Sanchez, Russell – Black and Sienna Jar with Avanyu (1970s)

4"w x 5.5"h

$ 900.00

Russell Sanchez continues to be one of the true innovators in Pueblo pottery.  Each piece is coil-built, stone-polished, and traditionally fired.  This jar is from the 1970s.  It has a sharp shoulder and elongated neck, much in the style of Rose Gonzales.  The jar has an etched avanyu encircling the piece. There is a feather pattern on the back of the jar.  The jar was fired black and then the neck was two-toned sienna.  There is a band of turquoise hei-shi beads and a single inset piece of turquoise for the eye of the avanyu.  The jar is signed, “Russell Sanchez”.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
