.This plate by John Gonzales is from 2001.  John was well known for his plates and their intricately etched designs.  This plate is matte tan with an incised feather design in the center.  It is surrounded by a cloud motif.  The edge and back are red.  There is a single inset band of turquoise hei-shi beads around the edge.  The plate is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.  It is signed on the back, “John Gonzales”.

John Gonzales

John Gonzales is the grandson of Juan and Ramona Gonzales and the nephew of Juanita and Louis “Wo-Peen” Gonzales.  His father was noted potter Lorenzo Gonzales and his aunt was Blue Corn.  John learned to make pottery from his father.  His pottery is a distinctive blend of matte surfaces, incised designs and inset stones.
