Martinez, Vickie – Bowl with Avanyu and Clouds

Vickie Martinez (b. 1967) is a daughter of Barbara and Manuel Martinez.  Her aunts are Glenda Naranjo and Frances Salazar and her brothers are Sammy Naranjo, Chris Martinez, and Manuel Martinez.  She began making pottery in 1983.  This large jar is coil-built, carved, polished and traditionally fired. This bowl is carved with an avanyu and clouds around the rim of the piece.  It is highly polished and fired a glassy black.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Vickie Martinez”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
