Roller, Ryan – 10″ Tall “Starry Night” Double Shoulder Water Jar
$ 5,200.00
This is a striking large double shoulder water jar by Ryan Roller. Ryan is a grandson of Toni Roller and a son of Jeff Roller. He has been making pottery since he was a child it is his recent work that has risen to a new level of sophistication in form, polish, carving, and firing techniques. This new jar has an elegant form with a double shoulder or “rainbow ridge”. The shape is amazing with a sharp shoulder that extends across nearly flat, and then there is the double shoulder leading up to the neck. The entire jar is fully polished, which allows the shape of the piece to create the angle allowing the light to reflect. However, it is the carved area below the shoulder that gives the jar it name, “Starry Night”. There are large, diamond shaped stars carved into the clay with step designs above and below. In addition, take a closer look, as there are smaller stars carved into the jar with etched points of light. Near the base is the carved mesa. The shape of the jar reminds us of the historic pieces created by his family. The creativity of his carving and the high shine, give the jar the feel of looking into the night sky. Simply beautiful and elegant! The jar was traditionally fired to a glassy black. It is signed, “Ryan Roller”. The last photo is Ryan holding the jar.
