Folwell, Jody & Polly Rose Folwell – Jar with Mesa Designs and Asymmetric Rim

This is one of the few collaborative pieces by Jody Folwell and her daughter, Polly Rose Folwell. The jar was made and polished by Jody. The piece has a wide shape with an asymmetric rim. The neck is fully polished while the remainder is matte. The jar was fired a striking black-brown coloration. After the firing, it was etched by Polly Rose with a complex mesa and cloud design. The jar is signed on the bottom, “Jody Polly Rose”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.

Polly Rose Folwell is a daughter of noted potter Jody Folwell, a granddaughter of Rose Naranjo, and sister of Susan Folwell. She is also the mother of potter Kaa Folwell. Polly has created a variety of traditional and contemporary pieces of pottery over the years. She has won numerous awards for her work at the Santa Fe Indian Market, the Heard Museum Market, and Gallup Ceremonials.
