Blackmore, Marvin – Incised Bowl with Bear Lid

Marvin Blackmore was born in Farmington, New Mexico.  Throughout the years, he has mastered the art of pottery and is always innovating new ideas.  His pottery reflects multiple layers of clay slips, etched through to each desired layer. The smallest of pieces takes a minimum of 130 hours.  This bowl is part of his “Geo” series. There are carved feathers and half-circles on the piece is etched across the entire surface.  There are also feathers carved into the base and the central circle.  The piece is colorful with layers of slips. The bowl has a bear lid that is also etched on the top of the lid and the top of the bear.  The bottom of the lid is also fully designed.  It is signed, “Blackmore” on the bottom.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
