Torivio, Dorothy – 10″ Wide “Stars in Stars” Bowl with Inturned Rim (1980s)

10"w x 8"h

$ 4,000.00

WOW!  This is a spectacular, large bowl by Dorothy Torivio.  It is coil-built from native clay and painted with bee-weed. The piece has a wide shape and a turned-in rim, creating a version of the “infinity rim”.  The bowl is fully painted with interlocking stars. Each row of stars connects to the next. There are also stars within stars.  It is an amazing piece with perfeclty paitned lines.  It’s easy to see how she started thinking about “op-art” designs early in her career, as well as making vessels to accentuate her forms.  The shape of this bowl, with the inturned rim, creates a lot of visual space. The fine-line work seems to draw you in as each star creates a new design and scene.  I’ve only seen a few of her fine-line pieces and none as large as this.  It really is spectacular!  The bowl is signed on the bottom, “Dorothy Torivio” and it is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
