Maho, Garrett – 13″ Wide Jar with 12 Katsinas (2004)

13"w x 7"h

$ 3,600.00

This is an exceptional large, wide bowl by Garrett Maho.  He is known for his traditional and innovative Hopi-Tewa pottery.  This jar has a wide shoulder and a short neck.  It is coil-built, stone-polished, and painted with bee-weed (black) and red clay slip.  The jar has a Koshari clown painted on one side, and his mouth is carved through the jar.  There are 11 other katinas around the jar, including a Bee, Cricket, Mudhead, Left-Hand, Cow, Qooqle, Grandmother, and others.  Each is stylized in design but perfectly painted!  The bottom of the jar has a stippled appearance.  The jar was traditionally fired to create the coloration on the surface of the piece.  It is signed, “Garrett Maho”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
