Folwell, Jody – 10″ Wide “Stampede” Asymmetric Rim Jar with Horses

10"w x 8.5"h

$ 3,200.00

Jody Folwell is known for her creative pottery shapes and designs.  This is one of her classic asymmetric rim vessels.  The jar is coil-built from native clay.  The rim and neck are fully polished, while the remainder is matte. The jar was fired to create a dark brown-black coloration.  Around the pieces are horses that are applied with clay using a stamp.  It is a repetitive design that creates its own sense of movement.  As with much of her work, it is decidedly modern.  The jar and design are striking examples of her pottery style and creativity.  It is signed, “Jody”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.

“Jody intended the repetitive stamp as a commentary on potters who make the same kind of pot over and over again to suit the expectations of the marketplace.  She said that “the horses’ stampeding also represents the artists rushing to get their work done and the collectors charging to their booth to buy.  Curators and collectors were disrupting our village’s pottery history because they wanted things to be static. I had to claw my way up that hill to take back Kah’o’o pottery from the marketplace”.  The Art and Legacy of Jody Folwell
