Suina, Vangie – Storyteller with 16 Children on a Clay Moccassin
$ 575.00
Mary Evangeline “Vangie” Suina (b. 1959) learned to make pottery from her mother, Louise E. Suina (1939-1992). This is one of her classic clay storytellers with 16 children on a clay mocassin. The mocassin is the “house” for the children with a kiva opening on the top and windows on the side. Each of the children is in a different position, creating charming interactions on the piece. The storyteller was fired, and there are leather straps added on the side and a wooden ladder on top. The figure is signed on the bottom, “Vangie Suina”. It is from the early 2000s and it is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
