Clara Chavez (1922-1984) was a daughter of noted Acoma potter Mary Histia. This jar is coil-built from native clay, and it is painted with bee-weed (black). The bowl has alternating star designs encircling the piece. The bowl has delicately painted lines to create the design. It was traditionally fired so it has some color variation on the surface. It is signed, “Clara H. Chavez”. It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
