Tso, Jared – “Moon Flower” Black Fired Jar with 20 Pointed Rim

8.75"w x 7"h

$ 4,400.00

This is a striking jar by Jared Tso.  He is one of the rising stars of Native pottery.  He is a grandson of potter Faye Tso and his pottery is exceptionally refined in technique and traditional in style.  Each piece is coil-built from traditional native Navajo clay and traditionally fired.  This jar has a sharp shoulder and turned out rim.  The shape is elegant with the sharp shoulder turning inward.  The rim of the jar has 20 points which adds to the overall difficulty of the piece.  The entire jar, EVEN the underside of the neck and rim, is fully polished with his signature “swirl”.  The jar was traditionally fired to create the silvery black coloration.  The glassy black has areas of color variation on the surface of the piece.  It is exceptional in person.  It is exciting to see an artist find inspiration in the historic work and, using the same clays, refine them in a modernistic manner.  The jar is signed, “Jared Tso”.
