This seddpot by Ray Tafoya is from 1981. It is an earlier piece of his pottery. The piece is fully polished and etched. There is a large Mimbres style Big Horn Sheep on part of the piece. It is surrounded by cloud and mountain designs. What is unusual is the background area where the design has been etched away. Below the Big Horn Sheep are deeply incised vertical lines. On the back of the piece there are small circles incised into the clay. It is one of the few pieces of his work that explores a variety of depth as well as detail. The seedpot is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair. It is signed on the bottom R. Tafoya along with his hallmark, which is a White Mountain (his name in Tewa).
