Laura Gachupin is one of the leading potters from Jemez Pueblo.  This is a classic Jemez bowl that is coil-built and painted with clay slips. The rim and base are fully polished red. The central band is matte with cloud, lightning and mesa designs.  It is painted with red, black, brown, and white clay slips.  The bowl is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair. It is signed on the bottom, “Laura Gachupin”.

Laura Gachupin is one of the leading traditional potters from Jemez pueblo. She learned to make pottery from her grandmother, Persingula Gachupin and she is a daughter of Marie Romero and a sister of Maxine Toya and the aunt of Dominique Toya. She is also the mother of potters Benina Foley and Gordon Foley. Laura has won numerous awards for her pottery at Santa Fe Indian Market, the Heard Indian Market and Gallup Ceremonials.
