Namingha, Les – “Sun and Sikyatki Birds” Jar (1990s)
$ 1,600.00
This is a traditionally painted jar by Les Namingha. The jar is from the late 1990s and painted with bee-weed and clay slips The hatchure line area represents a cornfield at Hopi. In the sky are two Sikyatki stylized birds. Note the delicate lines and the polished white and red areas! As the jar is turned, there is a white slipped “cloud” with a red polished raised piece that represents the sun. It is a creative use of design and adding to the surface of the piece. The jar has a strong visual balance of both painted design and negative open space. The jar was traditionally fired and is striking in coloration. The jar is in excellent condition with no chips, crack, restoration, or repair. It is signed, “Les Namingha”. It is fascinating to see one of his very early traditional pieces.
