Roybal, Tonita – Small Red-on-Red Plate with Rain and Bird Designs (1920s)

4.5" diameter

$ 450.00

Tonita Roybal remains one of the great innovative names in San Ildefonso pottery.  This is one of the few small red plates we have had in the gallery.  It is from the late 1920s and it is fully polished and painted with red clay on the polished red surface.  The plate has a raincloud in the center.  On the sides are two stylized birds.  It is fired to a deep red coloration. The back of the plate is matte.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  It is signed, “Tonita” in the clay on the back.
