Ami, Ramona – Canteen with Frog and Tadpoles

Ramona Ami (b. 1929)  was a daughter of Emma and Hale Adams.  She learned to make pottery from her sister, Marcella Kahe.  She was known for her use of traditional techniques, designs, and outdoor firing.  This canteen is coil built and painted with bee-weed (black).  The piece is slipped white before it was painted.  There is a frog and tadpoles on the front of the canteen.  The canteen was traditionally fired so there are blushes on the surface.  It is signed on the bottom, “R. A.”.  It is in excellent with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
