Suazo, Ron – Black and Sienna Jar with Feather Medallions, Turquoise and Coral
$ 600.00
Ron Suazo learned to make pottery from his mother, Clara Suazo. His sister is Margaret Garcia. He said of his work, “As a result of studying both traditional and early designs, my decision was to create my own style, yet include a combination of both, with feather designs, bear paws, and early designs with inlaid turquoise and coral stones on both completely polished black pots, and on matte finish pottery.”. This jar has sloping sides and the top is polished and the bottom is matte. The top half is designed with a feather medallion. Extending outward are a series of cloud designs. The back half of the jar has very styles of etched clouds. The shoudler of the jar is etched with mountains. The jar was fired a deep black coloration and then after the firing it was two-toned sienna on the bear paws. There are inset pieces of coral and turquoise. The stones were set after the firing. The jar is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Ron Suazo”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
