Caroline Lucero-Carpio is from Isleta Pueblo.  She studied at the Institute of American Indian Arts and has been working in clay for over 40 years.  She is also known for her bronzes.  Her pottery is coil-built, stone-polished, and fired.  In 2000 she received a SWAIA fellowship and was Artist of the Year for the Indian Arts and Craft Association, (IACA). This jar is made from red clay and is matte at the neck and polished below the design band.  Around the top of the shoulder it is carved with a double band of mountain design.  Separating them is a band of coral beads.  The jar is signed on the bottom, “Caroline Carpio”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
