Gutierrez, Lois – Red Polished Polychrome Bowl with Avanyu and Corn (1974), Published New Mexico Magazine
$ 1,100.00
This is a fully polished large red bowl by Lois Gutierrez. She is one of the few potters who continues to create polychrome pottery at Santa Clara. Polychrome, or more than three different colors of clay slips, are all painted onto the surface of the vessel before it is fired. This piece has a round body and it is painted on the top. There is an avanyu and corn plant design. It is the earliest piece of Lois’s work that I have seen. It was published in the May/June 194 New Mexico Magazine. It is signed on the bottom, “Lois + Derek”. It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
