Jody Folwell is known for her creative pottery shapes and designs.  This is one of her classic asymmetric rim vessels.  The jar is coil-built from native clay.  The rim and neck are fully polished, while the remainder is matte. The jar was fired to create a dark brown-black coloration.  The jar is designed with a single figure surrounded by buffalo and single rez dog.  The story of this important jar is :

In this piece, Folwell compares the extermination of the buffalo with the mis-treatment of the pueblo’s dog problems.  The artist, an activist in animal rescue, is a savior of sorts for the abandoned and mistreated animals of the village.  The Art of Clay
