8"w x 5.5"h

$ 3,000.00

Stephanie Tafoya is a great-granddaughter of Margaret Tafoya, a granddaughter of Lee Tafoya, and the daughter of Mel Tafoya. She has learned to make pottery from her aunt, Linda Tafoya-Sanchez, and is currently working on perfecting her techniques with Nathan Youngblood.  Each piece is coil-built, carved, stone polished, and traditionally fired. This jar is entitled, “Dreaming”.  It is carved with feathers spiraling out from the center.  There are a total of 48 feathers!  The feathers are either polished black or matte.  The matte feathers are incised with linear designs.  Note how tiny the feathers are at the opening.  The feathers match the shape of the jar with longer feathers on the neck and shorter feathers near the base.  The feather design was inspired by her pet parrot Beto (see last photo).  Her name in Tewa is “Khung Be”, which means Holly Berry which she signs as a hallmark along with her name.
