Lugo, Sergio – “The Universe Revealed” Tall Black Jar with Carved Feathers
$ 5,500.00
This is technically an amazing jar by Sergio Lugo. He is the middle son of noted potter Nancy Youngblood and a brother to Joseph Lugo and Christopher Youngblood. He learned to make pottery from his mother. Each piece is coil-built, carved or painted, stone polished, and traditionally fired. This piece is entitled, “The Universe Revealed”. The neck of the jar is perfeclty sanded and slipped with mica and then rag polished to a smooth finish. The top of the shoulder has reverse carved feather. The feathers stand out above the carved area. The base of the jar is fully polished and then etched with circles, representing the “universe”. The jar has a lid, which has reverse carved feathers on both side. Again, the feathers are polished. It is a visually striking jar with unexpected technical variations. It was traditionally fired to a silvery black coloration. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Sergio Lugo”.
