Susan Folwell is known for her use of contemporary and creative imagery on her pottery. This pair of clay tiles is part of her Route 66 Series. One is based on “Driving Bingo” where you move a lever for each item you see until you get a row of them or “Bingo”. The second one is entitled, “Green Book” and it is based on Victor Hugo Green’s 1936-1966 guidebook for travel for African-American. It listed safe, welcoming lodging, restaurants, and gas stations for Black Americans navigating Jim Crow segregation. Today, the name also inspires modern safety apps for Black travelers. They are each signed, “S. Folwell”.

Susan Folwell is known for her use of contemporary and creative imagery on her pottery. This jar is coil-built and stone-polished on the rim. The shape of the jar spirals around and the exterior is painted with a series of swirling designs. The inside of the rim is painted with circles. Of course, it is the inside of the jar that is so exceptional and gives the jar it’s name, “Princess Power”. There is a Pueblo Warrior with her lasso painted in the center. Above her is the wording “Pottery Princess”. To the side is “Power”. Below her are eight pieces of painted pottery. There is a lot of detail, and a lot of humor in this jar! It is signed, “Susan Folwell”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
