Tanner , Roy and Stella – Bowl with Big Horn Sheep (1981)
$ 250.00
Stella Tanner (Kwa Povi) and her son Roy (Tsigowanu) began making pottery together in 1976. Stella was a granddaughter of Luteria Atencio, a daughter of Crucita Talalchy, and a sister of Mary Gutierrez and Joe Talachy. It was Luteria who taught them both to make pottery. Stella made and polished the pottery, and Roy etched the designs into the surface. This is a charming piece. The bowl is fully polished, and there is a large Big Horn Sheep etched into the clay. It is surrounded by deeply carved feathers and wind designs. The piece is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair. It is signed on the bottom, “Kwa Povi & Tsigowanu”. They stopped working around 1986, but during their brief career as potters, they won awards at the Santa Fe Indian Market and the Eight Northern Indian Market.
