Shan Goshorn (1957-2018), Eastern Band Cherokee, was known for her creative baskets. She lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Her interdisciplinary artwork expresses human rights issues, especially those that affect Native American people today. Goshorn used mixed media, including woven paper baskets, silversmithing, painting, and photography. This basket is entitled, “Hand in Hand”. It is made from arches watercolor paper splints printed with archival inks, acrylic paint, and Copper foil. The piece is described in an accompanying sheet (see last photo), telling a story of the Gaming Industry and casinos on Native life. It is signed on the bottom and it is in excellent condition.
