Vernida is a great-granddaughter of Nampeyo of Hano and a granddaughter of Fannie Nampeyo. Her father, Harold Polacca, was a son of Fannie. She is a sister of noted potters Clinton Polacca and Reva Ami. Vernida is known for her finely painted traditionally designed Hopi pottery.
