Marie Romero was one of the traditional matriarchal potters from Jemez pueblo. She learned to make pottery from her mother, Persingula Gachupin and influenced her daughters Laura Gachupin and Maxine Toya and granddaughter Dominique Toya. Over the years Marie won numerous awards for her pottery at Santa Fe Indian Market, the Heard Indian Market and Gallup Ceremonials.
