Raena Sosa (Little Mother Earth) of the Chippewa Cree Tribe has been painting since 2021. She studied at the University of Southern Mississippi, and graduates in Fall 2025.
Her Artistic influences are Native Americans in natural environments based off of her home, Rocky Boy Montana. Some of her favorite artists are Jerry Jordan, James Meade, and Eric Bowman. She first became interested in art when she wanted to capture the feeling of the landscape. She wants viewers to sense a story of reconnecting with yourself, no matter how long it takes. “Sometimes we lose ourselves through grief and hardship, but we must always find our way back to our homes. ”
Her paintings show figures trekking through beautiful forests, deserts, and various weathers to get to their destinations. Much like life, these figures will go through scenic routes, difficult paths, and scorching heat, to reach where they are going, just like you. “My figures are not alone on their journey, for you are there with them, both reaching for the same thing…”
