Stevens, Jacquie – White Asymmetrical Jar with Dots

Jacquie Stevens is best known for simple use of forms on her pottery.  However, her Winnebago ancestry inspired her to combine pottery and basketry together.  This bowl is a micaceous clay and fired black.  The variations on the bottom are from the firing and the clay.  The inside of the bowl has a sculpted “swirl” design. However, it is the rim of the bowl which is so stunning.  It is a very tightly woven basket pattern.  The holes in the side of the bowl are used to hold the stitching of the basketry.  The piece is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.  It is signed on the bottom in the cla

Stevens, Jacquie -Black Asymmetrical Jar with Dots

Jacquie Stevens is best known for simple use of forms on her pottery.  However, her Winnebago ancestry inspired her to often combine pottery and basketry together.  This jar uses the simplicity of form with a textured surface. The jar is made from a white clay and has a series of small dots encompassing the surface of the piece.  It has been reduction fired to make it black.  The piece has a minimalist style with an organic form.  The piece is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay.
