This is a classic red jar by Sadie Adams.  It is made from the traditional red Hopi clay.  The entire piece is fully polished.  On two sides are swirling Hopi birds.  The remainder is plain.  The black is bee-weed painted on the red clay surface.  The bowl is signed on the bottom with her hallmark flower.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.

Sadie Adams

Sadie Adams was famous for the variety of her pottery shapes along with her intricately painted designs. Each piece was coil-built, painted with bee weed and native clay slips, and traditionally fired. She was a cousin of potters Lena Charlie, Irene Shupla, and Patty Maho, and a niece of Paqua Naha (Frogwoman). She also taught her daughter, Lorna Lomakema, to make pottery. Her Tewa name meant "Flower Woman/Girl" and so each piece is signed with her hallmark which is a flower.
