Aragon, Dolores Juanico- Water Jar “1860-70 Designs” with Parrots and Clouds
$ 850.00
Dolores Juanico Aragon is a daughter of Marie S. Juanico and a granddaughter of Dolores Sanchez. She learned to make pottery from her mother. Each piece is coil built, painted with bee-weed (black), and painted with native clay slips. Much of Dolores’s pottery is inspired by historic Acoma vessels. This jar is a classic Acoma shape with a round shoulder and a short neck. It was inspired by a classic Acoma jar from the 1860-70 period. The jar has large, muti-colored parrots on each side. They are separated by colorful cloud beings on each side. The jar is precision painted with a design that perfectly matches the shape of the piece. The simplicity of color in the clay accentuates the designs. It is signed on the bottom, “D. J. Aragon”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, restoration, or repair.
